For anyone who is interested in modern jet fighter tactics, I have posted a demo of a game I've created called "Strike Jets: Air War in the Modern Age" to the Univerity of Michigan macintosh archves. It covers air combat from the years 1975 through 2005. Two scenarios are included with the demo. One is a ground attack mission pitting 3 F-4E Phantom jets (two loaded with bombs and one armed as as escort fighter) against a strike target ringed with surface to air missile units and fighter cover in the form of 2 MiG-23 interceptors. Another scenarion (the "dogfight") challenges a single ace Phantom pilot to escape (and maybe shoot down) two MiG's that have just jumped him and are on his six. The full version of the game contains 94 of the world's best jets (including many future variants) and 40+ air to air missiles, plus many larger and more complex scenarios (including a _realistic_ version of the last dogfight scene from the movie Top Gun, where even the best pilots will need a lot of luck just to survive, let alone win (as Tom Cruise did) against the best the Soviets have to offer: 6 MiG-29's!). I've done a lot of research for this so if you are a technophile I think you'll like it. Keep in mind that this is a tactical/strategic game (i.e. a "wargame") , not a flight simulator. If you're interested, you can get a copy of the demo (it is FREE, by the way, not shareware) by: anonymous ftp to: mac.archive.umich.edu then "cd archive/mac/games/demogames" and "get strikejets.sit.hqx" It's binhexed and stuffed with Stuffit. Thanks. Hope you like it. -- Charlie Moylan (cem@cs.brown.edu)
