[comp.sys.mac.games] Curse of the Azure Bonds for the Mac

gmwu@athena.mit.edu (George Wu) (04/09/91)

I just bought a copy of the CAB from Egghead Software.
It's a great D&D adventure, especially for the people who like
to hack monsters. However, the IBM CGA graphics really
stinks big time. That coupled with the need to use the
decoder wheel each time to get into the game is really annoying.

Can someone e-mail me the patch to bypass the initial screen
that requires you to use the decoder wheel? It will make life
much easier. (To seriously play the game, you still need the hint
book that came with it. Experience with D&D, D&D Handbooks also
help tremendously.) The game is highly addictive and is highly
recommended except for the stupid port from IBM & the stupid
decoder wheel.

Please reply to me at gmwu@athena.mit.edu

	Thanks in advance.

POR did not need a patch fix, just a little hex editing. Specifics
will not divulged but I NEVER NEEDED THE WHEEL.

SSI "fixed" this for CAB so you'll have to carry the wheel... or a rea-
sonable facsimile. I carry two tables with me: one has the the two rune al-
phabets and the other the codewords that appear between the spaces. If you
assign a consecutive number to each rune then you can write a simple table
that represents the wheel. I will not put this out anywhere because that would
be helping the pirating of software, but anybody with the wheel will be able to
carry the information without a chance of losing the original.

Random Thoughts (Stream of Conciousness)
I do understand the need for the code wheel, but it whould be made an
integral part of the game, the way Infocom made the game paraphernelia that
came with the game valuable to solving. My opinion of the port is that except
for the annoying save module(Only letters and not names) this is a very good
program. It is a bit on the short side but the animation moves faster than
in POR (probably lack of color helps). The plot is linear but it also offers
opportunities for extra experience with superfluous dungeons. I am very close
to the end and the game has always been extremely challenging.
I have only tried Paladin because Ranger did not seem to offer any
advantages over my Half_Elf Cleric/Fighter/MU at this level. For next install-
ment I'll probably add the Cleric/Ranger and a MU/Thief; the MU/Thief will
keep advancing in HP and keep his lower level spells while Cleric/Ranger will
fight better than the Cleric alone.

I'm trying to get a handle on how to kill that massive party of Beholders, Dark
Elf Lords, High Priests, and Rashaskas in the bottom of that tower. Can it be
done? And if so, how?
