[comp.sys.mac.games] I need help with Curse of the Azure Bons

rpena@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu (Robert Pena) (04/30/91)

What I've been reading about curse as of late many people are having the same
problem that I have with getting passed the beholder corps. Also I saw someone
mention something about the caverns of Dagger Falls . My questions are 1) how
do you get passed the corps, I did see teh post for enlarge and hast , but are
there any oteher ways. Also how do I get to the caversn when I do a search all
I get is the magic shop and the tower but no caverns.

If there are any hints that anyone could give me I worul would be greatful

I did not meet the Beholder Corps and was able to finsih the game!
Still, if you are talking about the scene with only one beholder, one medusa
and lots of minotaurs, I cast speed on the party and then proceeded to fireball
all the minotaurs (My party was 1 MU, 1 CL, 1 FI/TH, I PA, and 2 FI/MU/CL).
I killed medusa with a Death spell(Cleric) and when there was any space i went to the beholder and started hitting him. Two tries was enough not to lose
anyone.

I think what the original poster meant the Beholder Corps in tower/dungeon of
Dagger Falls. So far, no one on the net has given me enough inspiration to go
back and fight them. There were simply too many of them, and no matter how
many Haste and Invisibility I caste, they always wipe me out after 3-5 turns.

As I said, I did not need to clobber those guys to finish the game.
One beholder was particularily hard when I fouught it so imagine a whole bunch
of them. The only suggestion I have is to run away to a protected alcove and
wait for them to turn around the corner. Gang up on one of them at a time.
You might try using choking clouds to cover your flanks because there is
always a cchance one of them will get stunned by walking in and you can
clobber them there. One final point: a spellcaster can not use magic during
a round if he is hit; once the beholder is hit he can not cast during the rest
of the round.

This last statement is not true. A beholder doesn't cast anything, all of
his spell attacks are natural to him. His eye stalks automatically produce
the spell, as such, even if you hit him, the beholder will be able to
use all of his attacks against you.

I must agree however to the first statement. You don't need to kill the
beholder corps to win the game. Head on to Yulash and take care of the
Cult Of Moander's sigil, by entering the Pit of Moander.

The safest way to get past the beholder corps is to use the dust of
dissappearance
which I believe can be found in the Fire Knives den. Use this right
before you go in
the room and you're set. Since you're invisible, even after attacking,
you can beat
the crap out of everyone in the room because they won't attack back.
Just beware,
don't try to retreat, or the computer will allow the monster to attack
you. Hope this
helps.
