The somewhat in-depth review of Spaceward Ho!
Personally, I think whoever made the program is a Texan at heart
using such words as "hyahh" and "whoa" when you have the sound
on directing ships to other planets.
As far as game playing is concerned. It is like playing
a Multi-player game I ran across called Planet Busters. The Idea
of the game, is for you to worry about a few things... One of them
is money. You have to worry about how you are going to spend your
money as far as Mining for Metal (Which is what you need to make
ships), devoting some of the money to Technology (Like Weapons,
speed, Range, Shields, and Miniture [Which this is VERY IMPORTANT,
since Metal does need to be conserved a lot in this game]) and Money
to your planets (Yours and also the ones you control) where you worry
about Terraforming those you are colonizing, and building ships on
planets that can make them. Of course, you will also have some people
who will be doing the same thing, trying to be number one on everything.
Game Playability: Fairly good, more towards Strategy than
actual action/combat. This is where the Mind decides if something
is worth the hassle.
Graphics: Not the Best, since we are dealing with a galactic
scale, and The only thing you will really notice, is when you see
which planets are occupied by certain people, (Which is by having
a scout check it out)
Sounds: Not the best as well, sometimes a bit annoying, but
if you like the old Texas Spirit of the open range, you will like it.
The game does not seem to be very impressive with the sound, but only
if you like the short score they play for each little event.
Strategy: I would say a bit simple (But HOW SHOULD I KNOW?!?
This is a guy who plays it by himself, and trying to balance everything
out nicely...) You might want to ask a few people who have played it
with several people.
Plot of the Game: Ideally, it is a good concept. Puts the word
"Manifest Destiny" back into play, where people want to take everything
they can.
You might like this game if you are into the idea of space
exploration, and also doing a bit as the "Federation vs. Klingon" bit
on other people. This game is not that bad.
