A friend of mine has just gotten a IIsi and borrowing some games from me...both shareware and retail software. He says that with many of the shareware programs, when he tries to load them up, the system crashes, giving a dead mac icon and an error code. In the worst case, he had to shut the machine down and use a paperclip to remove the floppy. All the software works on my macplus. My questions are: Does the IIsi have a design that prevents it from executing particular software? Does this sound like a system problem? His system 6.0.7 was already on his hard drive when he got it. Is a macplus able to run more software than a IIsi. For example, I noticed that Mombasa (downloaded) runs on a plus, but crashes a IIcx. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Randy Mihara rmihara@ocf.berkeley.edu

No, the games have design flaws that prevent them from running on
every type of macintosh. (I mean it)

Well, you don't have color, and don't have any power in the box,
and no sound chip, but you have good compatibility with the
programs written for the skinny & fat macs. These are on the way
out though (except for the classic, of course...)

No, your friend's problem is probably not with the system, although a few of them might be. A lot of programs will not work with the newer macs, due to different ways that they handle memory, etc. Also, most older programs will not work on new macs, especially games. Games do a lot of weird stuff with memory. I've also heard a lot about programs not working on the three new macs, (I forget why...). -Eric -- Joe Dennis - via FidoNet node 1:125/777 UUCP: ...!uunet!hoptoad!fidogate!161!555!Joe.Dennis INTERNET: Joe.Dennis@f555.n161.z1.FIDONET.ORG
