[comp.sys.mac.games] 3 in three

fdeming@lappi.uucp (Frank Deming {x6088}) (12/12/90)

Cliff Johnson has a new game out by the above title. It's form is much like
that of his previous Fool's Errand. The 256 color graphics are very nice
along with many animated scenes.
I haved solved only about 12 puzzles so far after two nights. The puzzles
so far have been quite different from the two previous games. There has been
one similarity though, the card game that was in Fool's Errand shows up, but
in a much different form. My guess so far is that it is as difficult as
Fool's Errand, maybe a little more so. The difficulty may lie in that the
puzzles have a different form this time.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this game? I tried to mail Frank
but my mailer didn't recognize the address. I have looked through the Jan.
1991 MacUser, but none of the mail-order places have it listed. Any help
in finding this game is greatly appreciated.

I tried mailing him and had the same problems. Frank, does this program
work on an SE? Or is it color only?

My roommate and I solved it on a 1-bit Plus (not many other kinds of
Pluses :). I would guess that if it works on a Plus, it'll work on a SE.

I need help with the one of the last puzzles in 3-In-Three.
The following may contain spoilers.

I am currently at the fourth puzzle of FINDERS KEEPERS.
I am supposed to solve this puzzle :

 +--+ +--+ +--+
 | | | | | |
 +--+ +--+ +--+
	   +--+
	   | |
	   +--+
	   +--+ +--+ +--+
	   | | | | | |
	   +--+ +--+ +--+

The following letters are supposed to go into each box (each letter can only
 be used once) : A R T D O X(could be Y) and an inverted 3(could be B or E)

Anybody who played 3-In-Three before and solved this please help me. I am
now frustrated and the hint book is not out yet!

BTW, if you don't understand about the puzzle, this means you haven't reach
up to that point yet, so don't worry.

Please do! I've been undecided about buying this game, given that:
1) I solved Fool's Errand in two days (of solid playing) during Xmas vacation
	last year.
2) Puzzle Parade: At the Carnival (or whatever the name is) doesn't work on a
Mac IIci.

The game is available from MacWarehouse, even though it's not listed.
It will run on just about any Mac (as far as I know) and adjusts its color
according to the capabilities of the system in use, up to 256 color.

I've played the game through, and it is definitely a fun game. Easily
the best puzzle since the Fool's Errand. It took me five weeks to solve
Fool's Errand, but only six days to solve 3 in Three. Still, those were
six days of solid mind-bending, with break for food and sleep. I might
also be getting used to Cliff Johnson's puzzle style.

The premise is fun. You explore the innards of a mac with a three, who
has been kicked loose from a spreadsheet by a power surge. The color
and animation (and the sound effects!) are fantastic, and the jokes
and puns fly furious throughout. Worth the $$$, IMHO.

By the way, I have a demo version of the game. If it is the Net's desire,
I can submit it for comp.binaries.mac distribution.

Actually, the 3 is just a 3, not a B or an E. What can you spell with
3?
E-mail me if you can't figure it out.

That's great, but please send it to our favorite ftp sites in addition to/
instead of comp.binaries.mac (In my opinion, that should be abolished! Ugh!)
I think if you sent a binhex to mac-gifts@rascal.ics.utexas.edu, we could all
have our 3 in Three Demo before Christmas, instead of the eons it takes
sumex-aim and comp.binaries.mac (or is that comp.sys.mac.binaries ?).

Thanks!!

I'm at the Character Recognition puzzle (after letter legislature
solved) and it says to enter letters as I found them. By the temple's
clues, I have figured out most of the clues except for the "One is a
Mesh". So I figured that since the CHaracter Recognition puzzle accepts
7 letters, and there were 7 meshes I was on the right track.. Problem is,
It seems like its not the case.

Any clues as to what I should be doing here?

By the way, I have unscrambled the "Half" letters to get cooperation
and methodical. But that 14-letter one with LIOSSYPITIBNER is crushing
me! Forget that, after typing it, i see it (RESPONSIBILITY). Oh well,
thats usually how it goes, huh! SO any clues on the first one yet?

let me know..

scott

I bought 3 in Three when I was in Boston last Wednesday, but:
I admit it, I am stuck (no doubt because my native language is not English).
I have 15 scenes remaining, and only two options: Letter Legislature (not
really an option) and Half a Mind. I cannot solve the latter. I suspect
that I am doing wrong with the sassy reply (but I am not sure). Any hints/
help is appreciated. Please reply by mail.

Get the word in the bottom right corner, and the rest should be much easier.

Also, it helps to have a thesaurus handy.
