I was just finishing a game against the computer when some strange things happened: I had gotten to the point where there was one computer opponent remaining, and it was the one that just sits at its starting star and never colonizes any other stars. Just for fun, I "Compare Players," and find that I am first in everything except miniaturization (well, okay), and income (!). Yup, I had an income around $900 000, and the computer player was making more with only one planet. The sensible thing to do was to attack the planet, so after a little screwing around, I sent a big fleet there. The results: You were completely destroyed in round 86. Your best ships had weapon strength of 24 and shield strength of 24; you had 29 of them. You have 0 left. [I also had 14 others, each at at least 21/21.] Your opponent's best ships had weapon strength of 4 and shield strength of 4; there were 25 of them. There are 0 left. [It also had 1 other ship.] I didn't understand this at all, so I tried to review the battle graphically. I got a picture of one of my ships (24/24) against one of its (4/4, and the picture looked like it was supposed to); a few volleys were exchanged, and then I got a "divide by zero error." Either a cause or effect of this was that now the opponent ship was labeled (-32767/-32767). In case it matters, I was using a Mac SE with System 6.0.7. John Palmieri palmieri@athena.mit.edu
