[comp.sys.mac.system] Weird Finder Behavior

volaski@acsu.buffalo.edu (Maurice Volaski) (05/05/90)

I have written an init that uses the jGNEFilter procedure to modify events.
In the process of writing it, I discovered an interesting side effect produced by
the Finder.

When a user is editing a folder or a filename residing on the root
level of a mounted hard disk, you would expect that keydown events are generated.
In fact, this is what happens. However, for each keydown event, there is also an
update event generated. I can't possibly imagine why this happens, but it does.
Interestingly, it occurs only in the root level, not within a folder.

Unfortunately, I haven't tried too many combinations, so I don't know if this
would occur with root level of a floppy or if it would occur with multifinder off, or if it would occur with other versions than 6.12 of the Finder.

Anybody from DTS know why the Finder does this?
