You think that Santa Fe on the Peninsula is strange? Last weekend, I took a trip to Princeton NJ from Boston, and spotted some Santa Fe low-hood diesels over in the Amtrak maintenance areas near NYC, and one in use as a switcher at South Station in Boston (the switcher was seen at platform's length, in the rain, so it wasn't positive, but the yellow warbonnet is pretty distinctive). Apparently Amtrak has bought some surplus motive power; they have not been repainted, although the Santa Fe logo and printing has been painted out (in SF colors) and "AMTRAK" has been lettered in black. Also, it seems that the retired passenger-car market is exhausted; I saw several instances of the mobile-home-style "construction shacks" on flatcars in MOW consists! I guess it makes good economic sense if you think about it, but it just doesn't look right. It'll be interesting to model, though. While sitting in the Trenton Amtrak station, a CR local went through with an end-of-train device instead of a caboose; but the light wasn't flashing! I didn't tell the FRA. Dennis
