I have a new Mac IIcx with an Apple "Macintosh II High-Resolution Display Video Card" (part no MO322) expanded to the full 8 bits and an Apple Monochrome Monitor. After reading the docs, I thought the "MaxAppleZoom" would be a great thing to use, but it refuses to work on my machine. I have it in my system folder and it's the first init/cdev loaded, but it has an "X" through it and proclaims "Sorry, MaxAppleZoom 1.1 won't run on this Macintosh system". Is there a newer version (I've got 1.1) or is it just incompatible with my system for some reason? I have read the docs and noticed that he says it might refuse to run with a new revision of the display card since it does lots of validating of the hardware before installing itself. Would also be interested in hearing comments from people who use use this. It sounds like one of those "too good to be true" ideas - does it really work reliably? ||| Boyd Ostroff - Tech Director - Dept of Theatre - SUNY Oswego ||| Sys Admin - "The CallBoard" - (315) 947-6414 - 1200/2400 baud ||| ostroff@oswego.oswego.edu - cboard!ostroff@oswego.oswego.edu

Boyd - You want to be reading netnews.comp.sys.mac.programmer or .misc (I think.) to find more detailed info about this. The upshot of the whole thing is that MaxAppleZoom only works with the old "Toby" cards. It won't work with the newer Apple cards. -Chris Parker "Look! It's a witty comment in a .sig!"

I had the same experience with 1.1, and posted a notes in comp.sys.mac.hardware about it. Soon after the posting, I got ahold of 1.2, and the revised docs answered my question: The newer 8 bit card doesn't work with MAZ. You must have an older card that identifies itself as a "Toby frame buffer", or something like that (it shows up with MacEnvy). I don't know if the author will be able to get it to work with the newer card. However, I am tempted to send hom the shareware fee anyway, whether I can use MAZ or not, as some encouragement to try to make it work with the newer cards.
