Does anyone know what efforts are/could be/will not be/[generic] focused toward making Sys 7 goodies compatible with machines running Sys 6.x? The first things that come to my mind are aliases and file id's. If I use these features on a disk, what will happen when I try it with an older system? I assume aliases will just appear to be garbage as far as programs are concerned. Is it likely that an old Finder/System will screw up data structures on the disk? (I guess a nifty solution might be to flip the write protect tab so nothing can be messed with, but that is not the friendliest thing.) A whole other area is file servers. Do they need to know anything special? Is it reasonable to expect to have machines running 6.x and 7.x using the same file server AND getting maximal functionality out of it? Inquiring minds want to know. -- | _ /| | Robert Minich | | \'o.O' | Oklahoma State University | | =(___)= | minich@d.cs.okstate.edu | | U | - Bill sez "Ackphtth" |
