In response to your message sent Fri, 25 Apr 86 18:30 EST More news of the B&M "job action": Over the weekend, the federal circuit court issued a temporary injunction ordering the operating unions back to work to restore the same level of commuter rail service which was being provided last Thursday, before this latest escalation. This makes the MBTA happy since many thousands of folks had to drive Friday. North and West, service is still limited, but the South Shore lines will be at full operation. Additionally, Guilford was injoined from hiring PERMANENT new employees and made to post a bond. Freight continues to move by management crews: union estimate 25-30% of normal; Guilford quote 70% with losses made up for by reductions in labor costs during the strike. There may be a message here. An update on the B&M strike activities. On the morning of the 7th, an MBTA-operated commuter (power in the rear) hit a B&M freight outside of Framingham. Many hurt, none too seriously. NTSB is investigating now. This will be a first, since the freight had an End Of Train device. Signals were working. Any guesses as to who`ll get the Probable Cause for this one ?? Matt -------

Actually it was a Conrail freight on Conrail track in Brighton. The commuter was B&M operated for the MBTA. B&M says that they had a full union crew on board. The engineer of the commuter train refused to talk to the police.
