[comp.sys.mac.system] "notes" for sys7 publish & subscibe?

APPLEREP@MTUS5.BITNET (07/16/90)

( This is my first posting so let me know if I screw up...)

I have a quick question about how the "publish & subscribe" mechanism for syste
m 7 will work as far as the user is concerned. Is there any way to tack on a "
note" to the "new edition" of the "publication," so the "subscriber" (boy am I
getting sick of parenthesis!) knows what will be updated? For example, If I am
generating a report on say, late shipments in January, I want to subscribe to
a co-worker in scheduling's spreadsheet. But once he is done tracking January'
s late shipments (which may not happen Jan 31) I want to stop subscibing, as it
may corrupt my report. If he is located on the network but physically thousand
s of miles away, I might have no easy way to reach him to find out exactly is g
ing on with that spreadsheet I subscribe to.

What I think may be a good idea is to have a dialog box pop up (if you want it
to) when you go to publish something. In it would be an area to enter some tex
t explaining about this latest edition. When the other user opens up a documen
t that subscribes to information, and it goes to update the links, this same di
alog box could pop up, giving the user the ability to selectively update the do
cument.

So, does something like this exist? Do you guys out in net-land (and apple-lan
d :^) ) think it would be beneficial or even necessary? Am I just blabbering o
n?

Just my $.02 worth...
