How do I go about determining the meaning of this error, received on a MacPlus while trying to laserprint a file? -Ken Ken Field BBN Systems & Technologies | internet: kfield@bbn.com Mail Stop 6/4B | telephone: 617-873-3842 10 Moulton Street | Cambridge, MA 02138-1191 | USA |

Error -8133 is a "General PostScript Error," which means that there is some problem in the PostScript the LaserWriter is trying to interpret. When this has happened to me, I generally dump the file to a PostScript disk file instead of sending it to the LaserWriter, then use a PostScript downloader like SendPS to send it to the LaserWriter. SendPS seems to report errors in a much less cryptic fashion than the LaserWriter driver itself, and from time to time I can dope out what's wrong with the file... <chaz> -- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "Does Captain Kirk Exist?" That's "Manual Feed Time Out". there's a great tool called "System Errors Table" that's a DA. -- Chuq Von Rospach <+> chuq@apple.com <+> [This is myself speaking] It's a small world, after all! According to my System Errors DA, a Manual Feed timeout returns error number -8132. -8133 is listed as "General PostScript Error." <chaz> -- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "Does Captain Kirk Exist?" First of all, go grab a copy of the System Errors DA from sumex-aim.stanford.edu. This little gem shows you a listing of possible error codes, with a *brief* description of what the error is. Not that the message is very helpful: in your case, error -8133 is a general PostScript error. Grab a copy of the PostScript errorhandler (ehandler.ps) from the Adobe PostScript mail server (ps-file-server@adobe.com), and use a utility like SendPS or the Font Downloader to send that file to your printer. Then, try to print; when you get the PostScript error, the LaserWriter will print out a partially completed page, along with the error message and a stack dump from the printer. Having a copy of the Red Book (PostScript Language Reference Manual) nearby for debugging purposes...
