[comp.sys.mac.system] Mac TN's or How to Make Your Mac "Blow Big Chunks"

joseph@cooper.cooper.EDU (Joe Giannuzzi) (08/29/90)

I recently downloaded the August TN's from apple.apple.com and read them
using MacWrite 5.01. No problem. Then a friend of mine tries to read them
with MacWrite II and BOOM!, notes 256 and 265 don't load!!! Then I tried
Microsoft Word 4.0 and BEEP!, error in converting MacWrite document!!!

I don't know if there is something funny in the format of these two notes
or if any other notes are affected (excuse me for not going through all
284 TN's last night when I discovered this :) Anyway, what's up? What
good are the tech notes if you can't read them?

By the way, the subject line of this article was not meant too offend. It
was simply an attention getter, and if you ever read the TN's, you know
where it came from.

There was a similar problem with TN 41 (?) in the April batch; it's
replacement in the June batch did work, however. Given that I never
found out what the April one looked like, I don't really know the
differences between the two, other than what is stated in the TN header.

Just what is the deal here anyway? :-)

And here I thought it was just me...

I had problems too. MacWrite II would hang at a certain point in the
document. MacWrite 5.0 loaded it OK, until I came to print, when it
reported that it was having trouble reading in some of the paragraphs.
Sure enough, at various points in the document (both on screen
and on paper), it said "THIS PARAGRAPH COULD NOT BE READ IN FROM DISK".

I had similar problems with either the June or April tech notes.
