Does anyone know how to edit FONT resources with resedit so that all those unused characters represented by a box can be made usable. I have had varying degrees of success at this. In all attempts I used resedit 1.3d1. First attempt: This was on a mac IIx. I found I could edit the bitmaps for characters which already existed, but the attempt to replace a character represented by a box in keycaps would cause all such characters to change. Second and third attempt: These were both on SEs. The first SE gives a system error #2 every time I try to open a FONT resource. On the second SE resedit quits unexpectedly when I try to open a FONT resource. My questions are: Why does this work on a macII and not the SE? Can I give a different character assignment to each character which is unused (i.e. shown as a box in keycaps). I need to generate special characters for writing in Romanian, and have found no such fonts available. Please send email to: englund@snoopy.Colorado.EDU Thanks, -Todd "They say their punch cards got burned up, and they want to know if we can recover them."

Because ResEdit 1.3d1 is a delta-release, you shouldn't use it. It has a lot of bugs: one of them is in the FONT-editor. Try version 1.2 instead. > Can I give a different character assignment to each character which >is unused (i.e. shown as a box in keycaps). Yes. If you look at the Courier-FONT for ex., you will find that there are no "boxes": that FONT is complete (i.e. each ASCII-number (>=32) has a char). >I need to generate special characters for >writing in Romanian, and have found no such fonts available. If you want to build your own font (or adding some characters) you must do it for every size you want to use: for getting good printing-quality you also have to make them in 2 x size. The best program for these sort of things is a program like FONTastic (bitmap) or Fontographer (laser & bitmap). /Olle
