[comp.sys.mac.system] A/UX oh where oh where...

wolf@mel.cipl.uiowa.edu (09/06/90)

To start with. Our computing center here does not sell A/UX, why, they didn't
even know who produces it!

So I called a couple vendors like MacWarehouse etc, to see if they sell it or
know who does, well, they didn't even know what it was, one asked me (after I
asked if they sell AUX and what it was for) what the name of the product was.

So it seemed that nobody knew. So here I am.....

Can you buy A/UX from a vendor or strictly from Apple? How much? How much HD
space is required (and suggested)?

A phone number of a sales/technical person would be most beneficial.

Thanks.

You have to go to an Apple certified dealer.
Not just any Apple dealer, mind you, but a A/UX-certified Apple Dealer.
Most apple dealers are not. I went to BusinessLand for my A/UX.
I got more information from the net and other sources than from
the dealer, but they *were* able to place and ship the order.

Good luck.

Ps. If you are going to be running A/UX 2.0, suggest you have at least
100Mb disk space. It almost completely fills an 80MB drive.

If you are not going to be using an Apple-brand hard disk, check out
3rd party partitioning software such as LaCie's SilverLining.
Most formatting software supplied with the average 3rd party hard disk
doesn't have a clue how to partition for A/UX.

Also, you should check out comp.unix.aux, while you're here.

Good luck. Perseverance. It's worth it...
