[comp.sys.mac.system] switch launch from serial port MacBottom

I don't seem to have much luck getting responses to questions on the
net. (Perhaps they are too esoteric, or perhaps I should include some
incendiary remarks for good measure.) Nonetheless, I'll try once
more.

I have a two megabyte Mac "512k" enhanced with a MacBottom serial port
hard disc. Although the MacBottom's performance isn't all that great,
it runs correctly. Nonetheless, I have a problem with it.

Because the drive isn't supported by the ROM, I have to boot from a
floppy, and run a program (Electric Start) that loads the device
driver and starts the disc. It is supposed to be possible for this
program to switch-launch the Finder on the hard disc and then eject
the floppy.

This worked until about System 5.x, but since then (I'm running 6.0.3
now) the floppy is ejected, then the Mac asks for it again, and when
the Finder comes up the floppy is still the system disc. A manual
switch-launch (cmd-option-doubleclick Finder) works correctly, so it
is possible to switch-launch -- it just takes an extra manual action.

This is annoying, and I worry about this with respect to System 7.0:
if Multifinder is always running, will I still be able to
switch-launch manually.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? [My preferred fix would be
to get an old HD20, but they seem to be in short supply and the price
that used equipment dealers quote me ($399) is not reasonable.]
