Does anyone have a list of which Systems were introduced with which Macs? In other words, when they shipped the Portable, System 6.0.x was shipped with it, etc. Thanks in advance. Mark Chandler chandler@wc.novell.com

Overall, Apple suggests that System 6.0.4 and Finder 6.1 be used for all
Macintoshes except the Mac IIfx and the Macintosh Portable. Those two
machines should use System 6.0.5 and Finder 6.1.5.
Good Luck.

Apple has ALWAYS recommended using the LATEST system software at all times, with the singular exception of System 3.2/Finder 4.0 for Mac 128 and 512 machines. Specifically, 6.0.5 fixes several bugs on the IIci which could result in loss of data! Furthermore, EACH system release includes improved support for each Macintosh in the product line, from the Plus on up. In short, have a look at the 6.0.5 change history, available from several online sources, before deciding not to run the latest version. -- Mark Wilkins P.S. Infrequently, when a new 6.0.x comes out, a program will break under certain conditions. Often you can work around this by using the older system, but usually it's just better to get the bug fix update from the developer. Note that developers have had access to System 6.0.6 beta for a while, meaning that if they won't update you they probably aren't supporting their product anymore. -- ******* "Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitude!" ********** *-----------------------------------------------------------------------------* * Mark R.
