I've noticed an oddity with the "Map" Control Panel module. I have my machine location set to coincide with one of the cities in its database (Wellington, actually), but I set my time zone to be 13 hours ahead of GMT, what with it being summer and daylight saving. I did this without changing the value for Wellington in the database--this is still GMT+12 hours. The odd thing is, when I bring up Map in the Control Panel, it very briefly displays the correct time I have set on my machine, and then immediately replaces it with a value one hour behind, which it continues to display thereafter. This value is, of course, the time at location Wellington, according to the information in the database. What I'm asking is, can this behaviour be changed? It would be nice if Map always started out displaying the time for your machine, and only changed to displaying the time at a city when you'd clicked on that city. This seems more natural, I think. By the way, here's a handy tip for dealing with daylight saving, while keeping Map's idea of the time in other cities correct: when daylight saving starts or ends, don't change the time in General or the Alarm Clock DA--instead, use Map to change your GMT offset! First of all, make sure you've used Map to set your machine location and GMT offset at least once. Then make sure your machine's clock is still displaying the right time (you can check this with General in the Control Panel). Now you can come back to Map, and try setting your time zone backward or forward by one hour--Map will automatically change your machine's clock by the same amount, so GMT remains unchanged.
