I have a iifx with an internal Apple 160Mb drive. I am running 6.0.5 with desktop manager, a few other inits that have never caused problems before. The 160 is partitioned into a 40Mb slice for MacOS with the rest for AUX. Yesterday, a number of folders and files on the desktop disappeared. The System Folder, Public Folder, and a Word Processing folder no longer show up on the desktop. The machine will still boot. If you connect to public folder over the network you can see the files that are/were in that folder and fetch them. I can use the Public Folder Rdev to copy files out of the missing System Folder or Word Processing folder. One other bit of strangeness. I had a folder labeled Mark and a folder labeled Junk on the desktop. They still show up on the desktop. If you look at the disk through the standard get file dialog box it shows 2 Mark folders and 2 Junk folders. I used DeskZap to rename one each to Mark2 and Junk2. The folders on the desktop changed. Get file dialog shows Mark and Mark2 as separate folders, but the contents are the same, and if you delete a file from one it is deleted from the other. I've tried rebuilding the desktop ... No Luck. There is a Desktop file and Desktop DB and DF files on the disk. I tried deleting these and rebuilding the desktop ... No Luck. I'm utterly confused. I've tried SUM, and a couple backup utilities, none of which can see these blinkin folders (just public folder can). After each rebuild all three desktop files come back. Just for yucks, I tried reinstalling System 6.0.7 installation was successfull but the folder is still missing. Anybody have any clues what's going on here ? I'm ready to zotz the disk and restore it from backup, but I'd like to figure out what happened.
