I have recently upgraded my LaserWriter driver on my Mac II to version 6.0.2 in order to get the greyscale support for my LaserWriter Plus. The driver has an option to select when you choose print to either use color/greyscale or black&white with the default being color/greyscale. My question...is there a way (using resedit or whatever) to change the default to the black&white mode? The reason that I want to do this is because most of what I want to print can use black&white just fine but if I forget to check the blacke&white box, the printing can take forever. If I can change the default that would be great...if not, I may resort to swapping the 5.2 and 6.0.2 back and forth to cover for my own stupidity. Please respond either in comp.sys.mac.system or to len@mtdca.att.com and not to the netnews server (it is having problems with mail). =============================================================================== ,--, ,--------, ,--, ,--, || Len Carr | | | ,-----' | \ | | || AT&T Paradyne | | | `---, | \| | || 200 Laurel Ave., MT 2D-213 | | | ,---' | |\ | || Middletown, NJ 07748 | `--, | `-----, | | \ | || (908) 957-3571 `-----' `--------' `--' `--' || len@mtdca.att.com ===============================================================================

The answer is yes, you can hack the Laserwriter 6.0 driver checkbox to print "black/white" by default. The necessary ResEdit patches are described in : [sumex-aim.stanford.edu] /info-mac/tips/generating-postscript.txt This file was sent to the moderators 10 seconds ago, by me.
