[comp.sys.mac.system] .hqx ???

lape@.cs.utk.edu (Bryon S. Lape) (11/19/90)

I recently logged into sumex-aim.stanford.edu and noticed almost
everything was in a compressed format with a .hqx extension. I was unable
to find a decompresser, however. Where can I fid it???

.hqx on Sumex indicates an Binhexed file. Binhexed means that the 8 bit codes
in a binary file are translated to ASCII characters, so that they can be
transmitted using mail etc.

You can Un-Binhex them using Binhex4.0 (at sumex in util directory) or using
de Unbinhex option of Stuffit. Note that most .hqx files contain a Stuffit or
Packit archive, so you'll need Stuffit anyway.

Hope this helps.
