Thank you to all those who replied. There are two ways to do this. One is to use RESEDIT on the Finder's LAYO resource. The last item in the list is the number of allowable windows open in the Finder. Default is 13. If this number is increased greatly, the memory allocated to the Finder under Multi- Finder should also be increased. (Note: all caveats about working with RESEDIT apply, ie, do this on a copy of the Finder to make sure it works!) For those who are squeamish of using RESEDIT, the shareware program Layout will do the same thing for you, as well as allow you to adjust various other Finder parameters.
