My apologies if this is a FAQ! I am trying to use the Asynchronous LaserWriter Driver (ver 4.0) to connect to an HP LJ llP via a serial port. The serial connection and cable work fine using MacPrint. Now I have a HP Postscript cartridge. After transferring the Async software to a disk with a current system, finder and installer, I have loaded the Async driver and it correctly appears in the Chooser. Baud rate is set to match the HPLJ and the Direct.ACL is set as the connect file( this same problem happens using the modem.ACL, too). In attempting to print from, MacWrite ll or Microsoft Works 2.0, for example, the message "Looking for LaserWriter <Async LaserWriter>" appears, the working cursor displays and then a new message box comes up with a failure to print message with an error -1. I have tried putting additional Dsplymsg statements into Direct.ACL immediately after it starts but no message from the Direct.ACL file ever appears. My diagnosis is that somehow the ACL file is never being executed. Anybody have any ideas/solutions/seen this problem before? Please reply directly to me and I will forward a summary of replies.
