[comp.sys.mac.system] MacsBug 6.1 & foreign keyboard

c89andma@odalix.ida.liu.se (Andreas Magnusson) (12/17/90)

Hi, I have a little problem that I hope that YOU can help me with.
I'm using MacsBug 6.1 on a SE with swedish keyboard. All is OK
until I want to list the symbols in my code. The online help and
the manual says that I should press Command-:. NOTHING happens!!
It seems that they look for something else than keyCodes here.
Perhaps it's because I have to press Command-Shift-period to get
the colon on my keyboard. ( Something just hit me. I might be able
to use the US KCHR and get the right result. ) Anyway I want to
use the swedish mapping and get the list of symbols.
Does anyone have a clue to this? Apple perhaps?
Respond by E-mail please. I'll try to put together my results
in due time.

Andreas.

Hi, I have a little problem that I hope that you'll be able to
help me with.
When I enter MacsBug 6.1 and want to list the symbols, the online
help and manual says to press Command-colon. The problem is that
colon on the swedish keyboard is shift-period. So I don't get a
list of the symbols or anything else. ( I just remembered that I
might be able to cure it by using the US KCHR, I'll try it. )
But it don't cure the real problem. I want to be able to use the
swedish KCHR all the time.
Any clues?
Reply by E-mail, and I'll do a summary if anything interesting
comes up.

Thanks, Andreas

Try pasting the US KCHR resource (or whichever you want to use) into
MacsBug's "Debugger Prefs" file. This should stop it using your
system's KCHR altogether.

I think this is documented in the MacsBug manual somewhere.

Yes, but that also means that everything else is where it's supposed to be on
a US keyboard. This is *frustrating*.

A better idea is to use Command-D as an alias for Command-:. Newer versions
of Macsbug actually document that in the help text.
(And, don't forget changing to the heap where the symbols in question are
supposed to be in, if that heap isn't the current application's heap.
HX @applZone (2aa) changes to the current application's heap permanently if
you are running under Mutlifinder; that's important if the application in
question uses silly things like completion routines or VBLs.)

What's a "manual"? ;-)
