[comp.sys.mac.system] Another Init Dilema

mfort@ub.d.umn.edu (Michael Fort) (12/20/90)

Although this is my first, here is yet another dilema with inits, here goes:

Nutshell
--------
I get a bomb sometimes on boot, and all the time on restart!

System
------
Macintosh Plus
2.5 megabytes (cache ON or OFF)
PowerDrive 45 Megabytes (loud as hell/cheap as hell)
Disk Manager Mac Drive Driver

System Folder
-------------
System and Finder installed from 6.0.5 disks (clean)
Init CDEV 3.0
Suitcase II 1.2.6
Desktop Mgr 2.0.1

Scenerio
--------
The system used to work fine with a virgin 6.0.4, but I wanted to upgrade to
6.0.5 or higher. That didn't take, so moving the original 6.0.4 system and
finder into new system folder gave same error. What the hell is going on
here! When I say that it didn't take, I mean that the boot process will get
as far as the last init, and then give me either a 'application is damaged'
or a 'bomb'. With the MacsBug installed, I get sent into the monitor with a
error as address ~0002xxxx where the x's change. The file that I assume is
damaged is the finder itself. Starting under Multifinder doesn't help.
I used to have the problem with the original 6.0.4 setup, but removing some
inits that I thought were "dirty" like facade seemed to do the trick.

Has anyone bought a PowerCrash :) hard drive with the simular setup and had
these problems? Does anyone know what is amuck? If so email please me
A.S.A.P. and fill me in...
