hi, I've got some questions for you with regard to 6.0.7 and the strange things that were happening with its installment. Last Friday and Saturday I updated all (46) of our school macintoshs. These included all different types from upgraded 512KE (to 2.5Mb) to a IIfx with nearly everything in between. Now this is what I was doing: System 6.0.4 --> System 6.0.7 LaserWriter 6.0 (from 6.0.5) held. Now here is what happened at the time of upgrade: A IIcx would not allow startup from its hard disk after 6.0.7 installation. It gave the following message: "illegal instruction" on startup. What I noticed was that there was a clash with SUM Partition INIT. But this did not occur on the other 6 Macs that were totally identical and had the partition software installed and running. Eventually I re-installed 6.0.4 and all was back to working order. An SE/30 would not allow the installation to work properly crashing towards the end with this message: There's a problem with the disk "hard disk." Installation cannot continue. The disk "hard disk" may not be a usable hard disk. (Error#-1) Again as with the case above there are plenty of other SE/30s in the school with the same system and drive configurations that had successful installations. So I re-installed 6.0.4 and all was back to normal. A number of machines seemed to have developed the problem of overwriting an existing SAM Intercept file (for when I was updating SAM). This only happened on three of the machines. Now here's the real beauty... As I didn't want to change the printer driver from 6.0 to 5.2 or 6.0.2 (that I intend to do some other time) I was happy to see that with most of the installations there was no request for the Printing Tools disk (with the 4 disk operation) or any installing of the printing software (with the two disk operation). What got to me was that there were a few random machines that did want to change the printer drivers. By random I mean that there was no consistency in the type of machine, location of appletalk zone, or anything else that I could ascertain. Can anyone tell me what is happening here? Have I gone about this massive installation incorrectly? Thanx in advance... nick ndg503@csc.anu.edu.au "Happiness is a piece of fudge caught on the first bounce" - Snoopy
