[comp.sys.mac.system] Apple CDROM software fails!???

phil@vaxphw.enet.dec.com (Phil Hunt) (01/18/91)

Has anyone noticed that the Apple CDROM stuff seems to corrupt? It
kind of like stops working after some time and even sometimes, cannot
    be reinstalled to work correctly.

I put the latest Nautilus CD in my Apple drive, using Apple's 3.0.1
CDROm software on a IIcx and the light blinks twice waits a few
seconds, blinks twice again. This goes on for about 2 minutes, then I
get a 'Disk is unreadable' message with an 'Initialize' or 'Eject' button.
    Take a guess which I pushed. :*)

I tried to take a 6.0.5 System tools disk, butcher the install stuff
off of it and place the CDROM stuff on it and Voila', same problem!

Also, this is not the infamous dust problem!!!!

An Audio disk works fine, it mounts on the desktop without a
problem. It is only data disks that don't seem to work right!

    What's going on?
