Please excuse my ignorance, but Apple doesn't supply much of a
description of its system files.
My question is, given a Mac IIcx (no built-in 32-bit QD) and a 4-bit
color card upgraded to 8-bit, what do I gain from 32-bit QD other than
support for printing greyscale and color? I can't really display more
than 256 colors at a time can I?
Using a 4-bit color card, can I display more than 16 colors?
The reason I ask is that my 8-bit card acts a little funny with 32-bit
QD installed in the System. Using an Apple 12" grey-scale monitor and
displaying the screen saver Fish!, the colors of the fish change when
they reverse directions. I used to have a similar problem with a
4-bit card and a 13" color display WITHOUT 32-bit QD, if I edited a
fish and didn't restart the machine. I guess all this points to a bug
in Fish!?
Also, how come with my 4-bit color system, I was able to make a
tan-colored desktop color ("General" CDEV) using System 6.0.3 and I
can't do this any longer in System 6.0.7? Even so, the machine seemed
to forget the desktop color each time I restarted under Sys 6.0.3.
Thanks for any enlightenment you can spare me...
