Often, after I've switched between screen depth modes (8 bit <--> 1 bit), the standard General CDEV seems to get confused and uses the default monochrome background pattern to draw the desktop even though I've previously set the background pattern to a color ppat via the CDEV. At present, for example, in 8 bit mode, the General CDEV uses the standard monochrome gray PAT resource to draw the background pattern AND refuses to present the color editing boxes so I can again choose a color background pattern. In the past, I solved this problem either by rebooting or, if that was unsuccesful, powering down. Now, however, these methods do not reset whatever needs to be set in order to let the General CDEV know I've got color. I've even gone to the lengths of reinstalling System 6.0.5 without success. Can anyone explain this behavoir and/or provide a method I can use to fix the problem? Is there some PRAM setting that needs to be reset?
