It is not the default because the output quality is not quite as good, the print head does not line up perfectly on each pass. But it is a pretty good trade-off to get a significant increase in speed. And, then you can still use "BEST" for your finer quality output. Read into that last sentence the fact that this trick is for use with the "FASTER" mode. One warning...once you do it once, it IS the default.
