[comp.sys.mac.system] What is the advantage of 8Mb RAM over 5Mb RAM in an SE/30?

jlc@atux01.UUCP (Jim Collymore) (02/02/91)

Prices write now are VERY low for 1Mb SIMMs. I was thinking of upgrading
my MAC SE/30's (running system 6.0.5) memory from 5Mb to 8Mb. But before I
begin throwing my money around, I wanted to determine if their were any real
benefits in doing this. And if so, in what way?

I'd appreciate your insights. Thank you.

Well if you run with MultiFinder and never are unable to load another application
because you are "Out of Memory". Then you won't see any advantage in having
8MB instead of 5MB. If you are not running MultiFinder and only using Finder,
then you additional memory will only be required to run larger programs,
edit bigger bitmaps, etc.

If you don't have any memory problems, you probably don't need more memory.

With that said ... you can never have too much memory (IMHO).
