You can't use the command-f to generate a PostScript File when the
Background Printing option is selected in the Chooser.

Turning off the PrintMonitor is simply a matter of going to the
chooser, clicking on "LaserWriter" and then clicking the radio
button for background printing "off".

Via the Chooser, turn off background printing and Cmd-F or Cmd-K will dump a PostScript file...

1.  Under the Apple menu, select Chooser
2.  Click on the Laserwriter icon in the left part of the dialog box
3.  Click the OFF button for Background Printing

No reboot is necessary.

Fred,

Go to Chooser and select the LaserWriter icon, then disable "Background 
Printing".  I think you'll be able to create your postscript file then.
