Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about desk accessory text editors. In one day I received nine replies. Seven people recommended McSink, and two people recommended SigmaEdit. They are supposedly both available via anonymous ftp from sumex-aim.stanford.edu, in info-mac/da. Both handle files over 32K.
