I had a kit installed on two LA36's made by DATASOUTH. Their phone # is
(704)523-8500. They say "...makes your LA36 perform like a DECwriter III"
and that they have over 5000 units installed. It makes the unit run at
165 cps bi-directional!! Other features: 1000 char. buffer, 110-4800 baud,
x-on/x-off, self test,top of form, margins, parity, double wide characters,
optional APL. I think they include extra heat-sinking for the motor. It
replaces all of the electronics in the LA36 including the forms length
selector and other goodies that DEC put on as options. The ad is on page
402 in the August issue of BYTE. We haven't had any trouble, but also
haven't used them very long at a time.
