[comp.sys.mac.system] macintosh access to NFS file systems

ccw@nvuxr.UUCP (christopher wood) (03/13/91)

I will soon need to have several macintosh workstations access (large)
files on an NFS file system. We will have ethernet to the Macs.
Performance is an issue, more than cost.

Would people let me know what they've used to do this? I know about a
Gatorbox; I am concerned that this would be too slow. I've heard about
CAP; I need more details. Any other solutions? Is there software I can
put on the Macs so they can access the file systems directly?

Sounds like you need a Mac NFS Client. Take a look at either of the following.

TWG MacPathWay NFS
InterCon NFS/Share

There are copies being used out there, perhaps someone who has done a
comparison would like to let us all know what they think?

Note: We sell NFS/Share.

Chis,

I would try VersaTerm Pro. I am using it to connect my Mac SE/30 to a Sun
Sparc workstation (via a gatorbox). It runs over AppleTalk at 220 Kbaud, but
it may be able to connect directly to your mainframe.

It is about $180 or so.

Thanks to everyone who answered my request for information on macintosh
access to NFS file systems. I've heard about NFS/Share from InterCon
and a similar product from Wollengang. I will be looking into both of
those shortly - they seem like the right kind of solutions.

Thanks again; I'll try and e-mail acknowledgements later this morning.
