This is kind of a trivial point, but I noticed in an article an implication that the functionality of MultiFinder had been moved into the Finder. I was under the impression that the functionality of MultiFinder had actually been moved into the System. The latter makes more sense to me, since a program (such as HyperCard) launching another program should not have to rely on the Finder for aid in doing so. Does anyone know the real story?

I heard it was originally in the Finder but got moved into the System. It's definitely in the System now. -- //----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Lanett ml27192@uxa.cs.uiuc.edu

MultiFinder has always been an extension of the System. Finder is simply an application (or shell) that takes advantage of some MultiFinder features. Under 6.0.x, other applications have nothing to do with Finder and you can even run without it if desired. In System 7.0, all the functionality of MultiFinder will be part of the System. Finder is still just an application, although its role is now much more important since it provides many tools (AppleEvents) for other applications to use. -- Andy Peterman | Opinions expressed treehouse!andyp@gvgpsa.gvg.tek.com | are definitely those of (916) 273-4569 | my employer!
