Only the necessary PostScript for each job is sent. - As a direct result of this, from 6.1 onward, new versions of the LaserWriter will not cause eternal-printer-reset-hell during the migration time period. Therefore LW 7.0 and 6.1 can peacefully co-exist when printing to the same printer. This feature alone makes it worth upgrading, especially for larger sites. - Due to hard-wired code in the AppleShare Print Server, Apple supplies a dummy Laser Prep for 6.1; it doesn't really do anything. - The PS 'Print To Disk' item is now a visiable radio button and not a cunningly hidden check box. - Driver option selections seem to 'stick' now. If you select 'Color/Greyscale' it will stay selected until you select 'Black & White'. Hope this helps. ______________________________________________________________________ Stephan Somogyi 1/8 of the world's population, 2/3 of the lawyers MacUser

One of the TrueType-related packages on apple.com contains version "6.1" of all the old familiar printer drivers (ImageWriter, LaserWriter etc). I know the LaserWriter driver has had major enhancements done to it for the TrueType support. I'm just wondering about the other drivers. I had a brief look at the ImageWriter 6.1 driver with ResEdit, and noticed the following: * colour icons for use with Finder 7.0 (whoop-de-do...) * "balloon help" text for use with System 7.0 * "Print" button in print job dialog, instead of "OK" * the PDEF code resources are slightly different in size from the 2.7 version (but not the DRVR). Are there any release notes for these new drivers, describing the bug fixes and feature enhancements? I'd like to know if it's worth upgrading people or not.
