A friend is thinking about getting more than 8 megs of memory with his IIci on the thought that he'll be getting AU/X at some point. But neither of us is sure whether it's OK to put 8 2-meg SIMMs in a IIci under either 6.0.7 or System 7 (when it's released). Likewise, would 8 4-meg SIMMs be OK? What does the Mac do with memory over 8 megs under 6.0.7? How about combinations (like 4 1-meg and 4 4-meg SIMMs)? If someone knows of an official "legal memory combinations" list, we'd be much obliged if he or she could post or mail it to us. Thanks in advance. -- Steve Baumgarten | "New York... when civilization falls apart, Davis Polk & Wardwell | remember, we were way ahead of you." baumgart@esquire.dpw.com | cmcl2!esquire!baumgart | - David Letterman

I should add that he'll be getting the IIci "stripped"; i.e., with
only 1 meg of memory and no hard disk. I assume that that means the
IIci comes with 4 256K SIMMs in Bank A. If he goes for 4-meg SIMMs,
is it still possible to keep the 4 256K SIMMs in either bank for a
total of 17 megs? Or can you only mix 4-meg SIMMs with 1-meg SIMMs?
