Apple refuses finger connections.  Kinda unfriendly, if you ask me.

Apple almost assuredly does _not_ have communications problems.
Apple.COM and Apple's networks are merely run (and run very well, thank
you) by a paranoid, ruthless wizard (who happens to be a buddy of mine)
who sees little value and much potential for harm in "fingerd" (the
UNIX program which answers "finger" requests).

If you want to check whether or not a machine is reachable, the standard
method is to use "ping", not "finger".
