[comp.sys.mac.system] Looking for MINIX via anon ftp

gaines@mars.njit.edu (Starman) (04/30/91)

Hi, kids

All the ftp sites I find with minix are for the IBM. Is there a Mac
version around anywhere?

MINIX is commercial software, available directly from Prentice-Hall.

MINIX patches are posted to ftp sites. Many patches work on all
versions of MINIX. Mac-specific patches are indicated as such.

And a question:
Has anybody received any information about the new Mach o/s for the
Macintosh (called MachTen or something like that)? Any information on
this product would be appreciated!

Jeff

I think what he means is where a MINIX *DEMO* disk can be found.
The official MINIX ftp site, plains.nodak.edu, has IBM MINIX demo disks.
But, to my knowledge, a Mac demo doesn't exist, which is really unfortunate,
because it's nice to demo a piece of software (especially an OS like Minix)
before you actually go out and buy it.

So, in summmary: IBM demo disks ARE available... ftp to plains.nodak.edu
and poke around pub/Minix to find them.

Mac demos are NOT available -- start a posting campaign on comp.os.minix
if you'd like to see them made.
