I just got out of a presentation by an Apple Systems Engineer, who just got her information yesterday. The Personal Upgrade Kit, which will include floppies, manuals and 90 days of phone support, will be $90. The usual educational and other discounts will apply, which means you will probably see educational prices of about $50, and street prices of maybe $70 (that's my guess). The Group Upgrade Kit will include everything that is in the PUK, except it will have a CD instead of floppies and will include an Upgrade Guide for network administrators and 180 days of support instead of 90. This will list for $349, with usual discounts applying. GUK owners can make unlimited numbers of copies. The CD in the GUK will also have an electronic version of the Reference Manual. The SysEng who gave the presentation wasn't sure what form it would be in -- possibly a new version of TeachText that incorporates graphics. It will definitely include everything that is in the printed version. What this means is that if you are a student, you will be able to buy a PUK for a pretty reasonable price. Also, if you are a student, it seems likely that your university will purchase one or more GUKs, so you should be able to locate a copy of the electronic version of the Reference Manual. The 900 phone number you may have heard about will have recorded answers to frequent questions. The charge will be $2/min. I think this answers a bunch of questions that have been posted here recently. -- Janet Swisher Internet: swsh@midway.uchicago.edu University of Chicago Phone: (312) 702-7608 Academic and Public Computing P-mail: 1155 E. 60th St. Chicago IL 60637, USA
