Bit of a disappointment: Craig Ruff's tar seems to break under System 7.0 in normal 24-bit mode. Has anyone managed to patch it or find an alternative? (I know about the StuffIt translator -- but I am looking for something to include with a freeware utility.) On a similar note: does anyone know who wrote "unshar". The creator code is R&DT ... sounds like Apple R&D, or somebody else? I'll summarize if there's interest. -- Bill (johnston@minnie.me.udel.edu)

Since I don't have 7.0, I can't test it myself. Note that the source code is available so that anyone can fix (or just recompile) themself. You should also check the version you have. The latest is v2.0 from May 1990. Both the source and binary are available on ncar.ucar.edu (128.117.64.4) with anonymous FTP in 'pub/Mac'. -- Craig Ruff NCAR cruff@ncar.ucar.edu (303) 497-1211 P.O.
