I have just installed system seven and have noticed a 300K difference between the total amount of RAM (4 meg) and the sum of the memory taken up by the system and all runing applications and the largest available block counter. This happens even when I start up holding down the shift key to prevent INITs from loading. I'm running on a IIci. I've checked a friends ci and he has the same problem, but I've also checked with someone running on an fx upgrade and someone running on a SE/30, and neither of them have the problem. When I switched back to 6.0.5, the problem disappeared, but I would rather run 7.0. Anyone have ideas about whats going on? Is anyone else on a ci having a problem? The fx doesn't have on-board video and the SE/30 has seperate video ram. System 6.0.5 seems to count memory differently, maybe they include video ram in the system count. The biggest thing I noticed about system 7 (B4 actually) is that the system uses a tremendous amount of memory. With file sharing on, and just a few inits (ok, one was ATM), I generally had a 2.5 Meg system usage as indicated by the "About Finder" box. Hope it's smaller on the final release... You also might note that File Sharing uses about 300K. I believe its allocation is lumped into system usage, but the process manager reports it as a seperate process. Jack Brindle ham radio: wa4fib/7
