[comp.sys.mac.system] Putting CmdKeys in Finder menus

gross@umiami.ir.miami.edu (Mondo) (05/17/91)

Now I have a real simple question..

How the heck do ya put command-key combinations into Finder menus in 7.0? I
peeked around the fmnu resource in the Finder and found a bit of a
pattern..but I'm hoping someone else ahs done it so I don't hafta waste
my immensely valuable time trying to figure it out. :)

So if anyone has a clue about this...please clue me in. Tanx. :)

Well, the fmnu resource is where the new Finder gets its menu info. I've found
that there are two boxes (unprintable characters) between the menu item's name
and the command key, and the command key comes first like:

FOOFind...	the O's stand for boxes displayed by the
generic template for this type of resource by ResEdit. If the menu item has no
command key equivalent, the 1st 'F' would be another box. Changing this will
add a new one or change an existing one. Remember, make a copy of your finder
and then move the current one out of the system folder. Edit the copy, move IT
to the system folder and rename it and restart. Then delete the old one. Do
this at your own risk! I don't make any guarantees that it will work correctly
for you. Worked fine for me though.
