[comp.sys.mac.system] How do you change the security on passwords?

dnsurber@lescsse.jsc.nasa.gov (Douglas Surber) (05/18/91)

I've had 7.0 for two days now and haven't installed it yet (my II
is having the fx ROMs and drive installed) so I haven't done anything
but read the manuals.

On page 24 of the Networking manual there is a note that says that
the user can control the security method used to communicate
passwords across the net. The choices are "Clear Text", "Scrambled",
and "Two-Way Scrambled". Fine. Great. I love it. So how do I do it.
Nothing in the index. Nothing anywhere else in the manual. No
obvious button on any of the screen shots.

Does anyone know how to change the security method? Does anyone
know what sort of encryption and protocol are used for "Scrambled" and
"Two-Way Scrambled"?

You know, I've never read a Mac manual before. They're not half bad.
