With system 7.0, the icons are 256 color. But how about the disk drive icon? I know you change the disk drive icon by pasting your icon into the one in GET INFO. But it onlys works in B&W. Any comment? Tim dhlx@cornella.cit.cornell.edu

Is there any chance of an updated 'Facade' letting us display custom icl8s? Or a gnuSunDeskColorFinderIconColorizer allowing one to displace those icl8's which we find distasteful? Computing on the Mac just isn't the same without Zippy The Pinhead and mehitabel standing in for the manufacturer's boring old box icon! -- ______________________________________________________________________________ No matter what you do, somebody always knew that you would... ==============================================================================

You _can_ paste a 256 color icon into the get info box of a drive in system 7. The way I did it was to open the icon I wanted in ResEdit, use the selector to select the whole picture, copy, and then pasted it into the get info box. My drives look really nice now. Jon

And you can open the Icon file with Resedit (the Icon file should be at the same level as the new Desktop files). In fact, I don't know if you can open the Icon file when running 7.0 (it was impossible to open Desktop file under 6.x.x with Multifinder). This method allows you to change the default icon mask created when you paste the picture into Get Info box, especially if your icon is not a closed line picture. [hope these info are not obsolete - I only have 7.0b4... it's a long way for systems to travel Atlantic] -hm -- e+ ----> :-) <---- e- e-mail : Les Chercheurs de Bosons Unifies marty@cernvax.cern.ch

As far as I can tell, what you can paste into the get info boxes is picts only, not icons interestingly enough. By doing it the way you did, you actually copied a pict to the clipboard. The point is that this seems to be the only way to do this. * Origin: White Mailer Test Point (1.0d6) (1:282/22.510)
