Not to detract from the System 7 discussions, but I'd like to ask the Gatekeeper 1.2 users of this group for some assistance in tracking down an extremely obscure bug in 1.2 (at least I *assume* the bug is in Gatekeeper, it's hard to be certain). The symptom is this: Gatekeeper 1.2 crashes during startup *before* it can draw its startup icon. This is most common when running in 4 color (2 bit plane) mode. This bug has only been reported twice, so I'd like to find other Macs that may be suffering from this problem in order to get a better idea of what's causing it. The crash, incidentally, occurs in a CopyBits call that is attempting to copy the single-bit ICN# mask bitmap to a GrafPort on the startup screen. Note that Gatekeeper 1.2 may crash or gracefully refuse to install during startup due to low memory conditions. This problem has been corrected. Just let me know if you happen to have a Mac on which Gatekeeper 1.2 crashes *before* it can display its startup icon (or if you have some idea of what might cause such a crash). At the moment, I'm bewildered. Thanks in advance. ----Chris (Johnson) ----Author of Gatekeeper ----chrisj@emx.utexas.edu P.S. If you've encountered other bugs, let me know about those too. Version 1.2 is an important step in Gatekeeper's evolution. Future 1.x versions (as well as 2.0) will depend heavily on code now in 1.2, so arriving at a thorough understanding of 1.2's behavior is important. Thanks again.
