I do a lot of file transfer between a Sparcstation and a Mac via DOS floppies so I use Apple File Exchange a lot. I became really irritated by the fact that it didn't run in the background, so I changed the main window it puts up when translating to a non-modal window, and set the "can background" bit in the size resource. The result works fine, backgrounds and doesn't seem to hog the machine for long periods without taking in events. Is this kosher- is disaster waiting to happen. Why didn't apple release this as a multifinder aware program since it took all of three minutes to make it that way? PS this is system 7 AFE and system 7 OS- I've no idea how this works under System 6. Second question- is ResEdit hyper unstable under System 7? Every time I launch it then open two files and attempt to copy a resource from one to the other, it crashes. I now have to open one, copy the resource to clipboard, close the file and open the second file. This is reproducible. I have standard System 7, ResEdit 2.1 on an SE/30. Lots of INITs which all allowed me to do this cut and paste between two open files in ResEdit under system 6.07 Maynard Handley
